Poole Old Town Community Group
Preserving our heritage. Strengthening our community.
Welcome to the Poole Old Town Community Group
We are a group of like-minded people living around Poole Old Town, the Lower High Street and Poole Quay, wishing to create a sense of community for residents and friends of the area. Headed up by a volunteer Committee, the Group organises regular social events and get togethers to encourage and foster a neighbourly community atmosphere within the area.
We care deeply about the character of the area and do what we can to promote and support local businesses and causes.
As residents, we remain interested in the preservation of the Old Town Conservation area. The Committee’s Poole Quays Forum Liaison Officer works alongside Poole Quays Forum to oppose those development schemes judged to be injurious to or unsuitable for the area. If you live or work in the area, why not join our Group – membership is only £5 a year.
Our charity is ‘The Friends of Dolphin’
This is an amazing charity that offers free boat trips around Poole Harbour to disabled people of all ages and disabilities. They are currently fund-raising for a new boat for the 2026/27 season to replace ‘Dolphin III’ which has had 20 years of stalwart service. At some of our events we organise raffles to raise funds.

Spirit
Our History
In the late 1980s, concerned at the threat of overdevelopment and potential damage to the architectural character of the buildings within Poole Old Town, a group of local residents set up Poole Old Town Conservation Group to lobby local planning authorities. The group also set up community events and fund-raising for local charities.
In 2022, Poole Quays Forum took over the planning and conservation responsibilities from the Conservation Group as it held greater authority with the Council and it was felt that two groups doing the same thing was unnecessary. At the same time, the name was changed to Poole Old Town Community Group to more truly reflect the group’s activities.
